Frequently Asked Questions About Bell Plans

What's the difference between a device plan and a BYOD plan?

A device plan includes a phone — the cost is spread over 24 months on top of your monthly rate. A BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) plan is cheaper per month because you're only paying for the service, not a phone. If you already have a phone you're happy with, BYOD is usually the better deal.

Can I keep my current phone number if I switch to Bell?

Yes. When you sign up, we port (transfer) your existing number from your current carrier. The process takes a few hours and is handled entirely on our end. You don't need to cancel with your old carrier first — the port does that automatically.

Is there a credit check?

Bell does require a credit check for postpaid plans. If you have concerns about your credit, come talk to us — we can walk you through the options and find a plan that works for your situation.

What happens if I want to cancel or switch plans later?

Starting June 2026, the CRTC has eliminated cancellation fees in Canada. If you're on a device financing plan, you'll still owe the remaining balance on the phone, but there's no penalty for switching your plan itself.

Do I need to come in-store to sign up?

For the best experience, yes. We can explain the plans in person, check your current phone's compatibility, and get everything set up on the spot. It usually takes about 30 minutes.

Can I reserve a Bell phone before coming in?

Yes. Call us to confirm availability and we'll email you our Interac e-Transfer (EMT) details. A $10 deposit holds the phone — it's non-refundable as cash but always converts to in-store credit you can use within 48 hours.
